The Institute of Maternal-Fetal Biology

Welcome!

Many people have been personally affected by early pregnancy loss and/or birth defects in a child. Many others have children whose lives were saved through innovative therapies. The fundamental knowledge derived from the Institute of Maternal-Fetal Biology's research efforts will permit the rational design of therapeutics to promote the health of mothers and babies.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Institute of Maternal-Fetal Biology is to improve the health and quality of life of mothers and babies. Members of the Institute perform basic life sciences research and participate in the training of future scientists.

Our History

The Institute of Maternal-Fetal Biology, a research institute of the University of Kansas, was established in August 2002. There is a tremendous need to promote research related to maternal and fetal health.  The University of Kansas and Children's Mercy Hospitals and Clinics possess outstanding scientists pursuing research in the field of maternal-fetal biology.
