Dr. Petroff was born October 19, 1969 in Santa Monica, California. She received her undergraduate training at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia, where she received a B.S. degree in Biology and in Animal Science in 1992. In 1995, Dr. Petroff completed her Master’s degree in Reproductive Biology, and in 1998 she received her Ph.D., also in Reproductive Biology. Both were completed at Ohio State University, in Columbus in the laboratory of Dr. Joy Pate.
From 1999 to 2001, she received postdoctoral training in Reproductive Immunology at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City under the guidance of Dr. Joan Hunt. A National Research Service Award from the National Institutes of Health supported Dr. Petroff’s postdoctoral training. In 2001, Dr. Petroff was appointed as a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Receipt of funding from the National Institutes of Health, to be initiated in January, 2004, will allow Dr. Petroff to pursue studies in the mechanisms of placental modification of the maternal immune system.
